Reaching the Abode of Shiva – The Velliangiri Mountains

7th Hill - Velliangiri Mountains Sadhguru Spot - Sacred spot for Isha Meditators This was my third trip to the sacred Velliangiri Hills. Although I stay at the foothills – Isha yoga center, due to the nature of my work, I rarely get a chance to scale the hills. But this time around I made myself available to climb the hills irrespective what. The last time I had climbed was almost five years back and so much has changed since then atleast at the base. The Velliangiri temple (poondi temple) at the base has grown big with lot of stay facilities around. I and two others decided to start the trek in the morning. At 5 am in the morning we picked up our food packets, drove to the poondi temple, parked our car and started our trek. There was light chillness in the air. This time around as it was not a season, we had to take appropriate permissions to trek the hill. It was still dark and we each had our shoulder bag with water and snacks to energize our journey. From Siliguri to Darjeeling

S iliguri to Darjeeling : 77kms We had booked a vehicle to drive us up the mountain. We took a quick detour to a guest house; refreshed ourselves and proceeded with our journey. By the time we started, it started to rain and before we knew we were driving with water flooding all around us. The drive took us cutting across the Sepoy Dhura tea garden and Sukna forest. The army has a huge contingent situated inside the periphery of the forest area. The roads were newly laid and we had no problems traversing through the winding roads of the forest. The vehicle drivers’ seem to know every turn as vehicles just miss few inches as they pass across. With the rain, winding roads and vehicles screeching along the national highway 110, we have to keep ourselves alert and awake. We just had our cameras ready for any action that we may encounter and we were not going to miss the moments. I was ready with my osmo and Deepa was ready with her canon. We had to reach Dar

Prelude

In the last six months we have been just talking about it, but finally we decided to take a trip to the Eastern Himalayas which is flanked by exotic hill stations – Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan. We decided to take the trip in the last week of may. The only hitch was that it was the start of rainy season up in the mountains. But we did not have any choice. We started to work the trip in our mind but no concrete plan was finalized. We first decided to take our motorbike upto Kolkata and then drive up but I was not sure having a pillion rider and also I felt that we will just end up driving. One of our main objective of the trip was to capture moments of people, their culture and the diversity. With this in mind, motorbike was not a good idea as it will amount us to stopping at several places. Also, being a rainy season, I was not sure about the d

Bike Trip - Karnataka & South Maharashtra

Motorbike Trip - Karnataka & Maharashtra It was one of my dream to drive around in India in a motorbike. I did not want to drive just for the heck of driving through the roads, but to explore the intricate culture and diversity of places. It include place, food, religious practices and people itself. It always fascinates me as to how things change every 100kms and there is a stark difference in the cultural and geographical topography of India. To start with, I and my friend decided to bike across the southern, northern Karnataka, Goa and southern Maharashtra. We were very different in our thinking. I was more interested in driving through the cultural and religious places, whereas my friend was interested in driving through the forests and thick vegetation. So we planned our trip to give a balance so that we both could enjoy. Our trip included 21 days of biking : Coimbatore - Mysore Mysore - chikmaglur Chikmaglur - Horanadu Horanadu - Aghumbe ( via
